Thomas Freeman Jr. AKA T-Black the Writer

Thomas Freeman Jr. is a New Jersey-based writer and producer with a dynamic career spanning urban fiction, cinema, and documentary filmmaking. He has published four novels and written extensively for both print and online magazines. Transitioning into film, Freeman made his mark with his debut feature-length documentary, *Live 2 Tell: The Lucas Torres Story*.


His acclaimed follow-up, *Can’t Forget New Jersey*, explored the evolution of hip-hop culture in the Garden State, earning him Best Director nominations at the Newark International Film Festival and the Hip-Hop Film Festival in 2016. He later created the docu-series *The Making of America’s Most Dangerous City*, which gained traction on Prime and attracted the attention of A&E producer Phil Claroni.


Freeman’s versatility extends to independent film, where he has written, produced, and directed several projects. His scripted drama series *Chase Street*, set in Camden, New Jersey, delves into the city’s political and underworld dynamics, marking a turning point in his career. He produced two films, *UNCLE RUFUS’ LAST REQUEST*, featuring Omar Gooding and Michael Colyar, and *Dream’s Reality*, both available on Tubi. Additionally, he co-wrote the intro for the Laugh Out Loud Network series *STORIES WITH KEV* alongside Woody McClain and Kevin Hart.



A graduate of the Los Angeles Film School with a B.A. in Digital Film Production (2018) and Full Sail University with a Master’s in Creative Writing (2019), Freeman is also a member of the National Honor Society of the Entertainment Arts. He is currently working on multiple projects, including the recently released criminal justice documentary *848: The Criminalization of America*, which had a screening sponsored by the Newark Chapter of the NAACP at Rutgers Law School. His scripted series *Grimes*, a spin-off of *Chase Street*, is in post-production, while another series, *Not Your Usual Suspects*, is actively in production.
